Details of experience:
Rebecca have been working in Events for all of her professional life and began working in sustainability in events in 2015.

Initially, her involvement began as research for her employer, but once she started to learn more about sustainability, Rebecca became very interested in the subject in general, and the potential of every individual to reduce his/her negative impact on the environment.

Soon after she was assigned ISO 20121 implementation for her company, and later became the Sustainability Manager.

Rebecca loves the events and tourism sector and she says that it makes sense for her to apply her knowledge in sustainability to this area.

In her role she has implemented a sustainability strategy within my organisation in 3 different countries; that alone was challenging due to the different cultures and ways of working in each market.

Rebecca is also interested in sustainability in tourism and how destinations and local entities can contribute towards reducing negative impact and creating a positive legacy.

Currently she is working as a Sustainability Consultant on various different projects; teaching, training, auditing and communication.

Details of experience:
As Hotel General Manager for 20 years managing events in hotels throughout Australasia, the biggest as Executive Assistant Manager at Rydges Wentworth Hotel during the Olympics in Sydney 2000, to over 200 private weddings in design hotels in Bali, managing events differently became my unique skill. After appointment as the Bali Hotels Association Environment Executive, I was also able to lead hotels through Earth Check's certification programmes providing training and guidance with groups of hotels. It was this volunteer role that led me to join the GreenAsia Group as Sustainability Consultant for the Hospitality Industry, based in Bali. Since returning to Australia, I have created my own Consultancy for the Hospitality industry and now work in that role for Tourism Noosa.

David has been honing his skills in Events Sustainability since the first Green Sports Alliance Summit, in 2011, in which he played an integral role through 2016.

After branching out as an independent consultant, he has continued to gain experience in sustainable event management as both a paid contractor and volunteer at various events, including music festivals, marathons, and large corporate events.

The foundation of his knowledge and experience, however, comes from his 5 years as Membership Director of the Green Sports Alliance, a role that had him learning from and advising sports stadium and arena operators, as well as event managers for marathons and other stand-alone events, on the full spectrum of sustainable management.

David became extremely well-versed around issues and best practices in waste/recycling/composting, water conservation, energy efficiency, food and beverage service, transportation, sourcing/procurement, staff training, internal/external messaging, et. al.

Most recently, he served in perhaps his most in-depth role yet, creating the comprehensive Sustainability Strategy and writing the Sustainability Impact Report as well as the Legacy Playbook & Toolkit for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, in concert with the 2018 USA Games Organizing Committee and project partner Tim Reeve.

Antonio is an industrial engineer, with a vast experience and training in circular economy, ecodesign and LCA and energy.

He is an expert in environmental communication and dissemination and was appointed European Diamond Ambassador in 2015 within the EE MUSIC platform, a European reference in the field of sustainability in musical events. He is also the jury specialized in sustainability in the Fest Awards.

Details of experience:

Brett's first taste of event sustainability came as a seasonal contractor for ESPN over the course of 6 years, helping to mitigate the environmental impacts of various events around the country.

After a short career as a remediation engineer, he joined Kilowatt Events, Inc. and helped launch their new dedicated sustainability wing, Kilowatt One.

Because Kilowatt's expertise is producing traditional events, the company advantage comes from their ability to weave event sustainability into the fabric of the event production process under the control of a single company, ultimately saving time and effort for clients and creating deeper impacts throughout event operations.

His education in engineering gave him the technical toolset needed to tackle large-scale social and environmental issues while his degree in business has provided the ability to clearly communicate the value in doing so to all stakeholders.

Event sustainability must make business sense, and he is excited to help grow the industry as it becomes increasingly important in an ever-changing world.

Luca has 28 years of experience as procurement manager and more than 15 years of experience in sustainable procurement/supply management.

Since 2014 he has experienced the design and implementation for F.I.M. (International Federation of Motorcycling) of an ad-hoc sustainable event framework for motorsport sector, specifically for motorcycling sector becoming the advisor of Italian Mugello and Misano circuits for MotoGP events (the top class of motorcycling discipline). The first ever sustainable event framework (K.i.S.S. - Keep it Shiny and Sustainable) in the motorsport sector.

This key sport sector is a worldwide unique massive driver increasing the sustainability awareness across fans, teams, riders, organizers, promoters, community, suppliers and sponsors.

That makes his expertise and know-how very strong and wide around sustainable events management.

The framework includes several environmental and social impact initiatives.

In  addition he designed a similar programme for “ETRC - European Truck Racing Championship” ( 50.000+ spectators) with the first execution at Misano Circuit race in 2018. 

In 2019 he designed and executed the sustainable management of the most important and leading exhibition of motorcycles and bikes in the world called EICMA hold in Milan (Italy) every year ( 800,000+ visitors and 1.800+ exhibitors). The event has been ISO 20121 certified, it is the first ever automotive exhibition to obtain this status in the world.

Lorenzo has been working on sustainability projects as a professional consultant since 2012. His skills are related to marketing and communication project management, including stakeholder engagement projects.

He manages his own company LOCOM, to develop Corporate Social Responsibility projects and services, and sustainability statements reporting since 2014. The Company business is focused in sustainability report drafting and communication, stakeholder engagement and sustainable events management systems with ISO 20121.

In the last years, Lorenzo has been involved with the Business Administration Department of the University of Verona teaching “Sustainable communication and ISO 20121 sustainable event management system”. He is working with Professor Paola Castellani, developing a research project work over “ISO 20121 criticality and benefits” involving many students in their university degree.


Since the ISO 20121 management system has been released, he has been trained and certified as a sustainable project consultant and internal auditor:

He is involved as sustainability consulting manager in Sport, Culture and Entertainment events to develop their management system following the ISO 20121 standard.

Paul Schurink is an expert in the field of temporary energy supply, sustainability and innovations.

Paul holds a degree Master of Business in Energy systems (MBE) of Delft University of Technology and worked 20 year in the Dutch generator rental company Bredenoord, were he held different positions such as Manager Rental, Manager International Projects and Manager New Business.

He gained experience in several major events as being responsible for the power supply to the Olympic Games in Athens (2004) and Torino (2006) and as responsible a Project Manager for the supply of temporary power, water and temperature control equipment for UEFA EURO 2012 Poland/Ukraine.

Paul runs his own company, ZAP Concepts B.V., which offers consultancy in energy and sustainability; specialized in energy assessment, measurement and logging as well as design of the optimal power supply for events.

Paul has extensive knowledge of generators, power distribution, alternative power supply as fuel cell technique, hybrid generators, alternative fuels (GTL, bio fuels, bio gas), energy storage and general sustainability.

In 2014, Paul, together with Laura van de Voort (Extrema), founded the organization Green Events Nederland.

Green Events Nederland inspires festival organisers and through them festival go-ers. Festival goers are receptive for new ideas and impulses, so a festival is the right place to communicate a message or concept.

By providing independent and competent advise, Green Events Nederland takes organisers on an inspiring journey to environmental awareness, sustainable and social responsible entrepreneurship.

To increase sustainability of an event, cooperation between several suppliers is required. Green Events Nederland acts as the connecting chain, knowledge supplier and think tank.

Green Events Nederland shares its knowledge by its website and through knowledge courses, provided by experienced sustainability managers out of the event branch.

Cameron Little, Principal of Sustainability Systems & Services, has two decades of experience within the environment, sustainability and corporate social responsibility sector and has been providing sustainability support for the events industry for over ten years.

In addition to an environmental science degree he has trained in Environmental Auditing, Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Training and Assessment, and Permaculture and he is currently conducting research into Low Carbon Tourism.

Cameron works with a wide range of business, community sector, education, and governmental organisations, helping their sustainability champions to develop and embed effective policies, procedures and practices so that they can progress towards achieving personal and organisational sustainability objectives.

He has worked with events such as Peats Ridge Festival, V Festival, and World Skills Australia. He is Lead Sustainability Judge for the Australian Event Awards, for the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, Tertiary Access Group Awards (Australasia) and for the Australian Regional Development Awards, and is also the National Judge for the Australian Sustainable Cities Awards.

Cameron is a practitioner in the field and provides numerous sustainability-related resources and services to events throughout the year from small Council run events to iconic events such as the Sydney Festival and New Year’s Eve in the Sydney Botanic Gardens.

He lectures and provides training through numerous educational bodies in areas such as Sustainable Events, Environmental Auditing, Environmental Management Systems, sustainable buildings, permaculture, and sustainable living.
